Overview of Resolve - Edit Page

Following the Cut Page in Resolve is the Edit Page. Here is where you will likely be spending the majority of your time using Resolve whilst editing you project. This page will most likely look familiar to you if you've ever used other NLEs (Non Linear Editors.) But nonetheless, I'll begin by explaining the layout of the page.

Like every page in Resolve, the top left window is your Media Pool. Here you can access any and all of your media in any of your bins which were created in the first page. Video files are displayed with the first frame, whilst audio files are displayed by their waveform. Even at a glance you can see if the audio clips based on the green, yellow, and red indicators. Hovering your cursor over the video files can also give you a brief look over the video itself as the thumbnail will begin to play the video itself. Double clicking on any media will make it appear on the next window. The Viewer.

Just like the Ingest Page, and Cut Page, this viewer will display the selected media at the selected resolution in the project settings (if the source media matches, or is higher than the selected resolution and frame rate). You can also pause, play, fast forwards and rewind at x4 x8 x16 x32 and x64 speeds using the J,K,L keys by default.

In the bottom left is the Effects window. Here you can add pre-set transitions for video and audio, as well as applying filters, text, and elements to enhance your project. The parameters for all the effects appear in the window in the top right. They give you full control of any and all effects, allowing you to fine tune them to your needs. Furthermore, some of the effects can be customised further in the Fusion Page (the next page).

Beneath the Viewer is the Timeline. Here you can see each and every element used in your project. This is where you will craft your project, placing and cutting down media to create your rough cut (If you hadn't already done so in the Cut Page) and then refine it into a final cut. This is where your project truly comes together, by being able to layer your media and form the final cut.

There are a lot more things you can do in this page, but I hope this brief overview will help you have a clearer understanding of the Edit Page. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next blog all about the Fusion Page.
